Gratitude without the Performance

From the Wishful Doing Team
November has a way of asking us to be thankful on cue. Between Thanksgiving on the 26th and a calendar that somehow keeps getting fuller, gratitude can start to feel like one more thing to get right.
We’d like to offer a quieter version this month. Not a list. Not a post. Just a moment to notice what held you up this year, and who.
November also holds days that matter to the people we serve. It’s National Family Caregivers month, National Native American Heritage Month, and American Diabetes Month. November 8 is First-Generation College Celebration Day, marking the anniversary of the Higher Education Act of 1965. Veterans Day falls on November 11, and World Diabetes Day on November 14. The week before Thanksgiving is National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, a reminder that for many students, student parents, and families, basic needs don’t pause for the holidays.
|
A TWO-MINUTE PAUSE Before you scroll on, sit with these three: 1. What carried you this year that you haven’t thanked yet? 2. What are you still holding that was never yours to carry? 3. Who would feel seen if you told them what they meant to you this year? Then, if you’re up for it, send the third one a note. That’s the whole practice. |
We’re grateful for you. Thank you for trusting us with a little of your attention each month. We don’t take it lightly.
A Note from Our Founder
The Hub should fit your life. Not the other way around.
Speaking of gratitude: if you’ve ever replied to one of these emails, shown up to a session, or quietly read every word of this newsletter (I see you), thank you. It matters more than you know.
Here’s what I keep coming back to. I’m not sure we’ve built the Hub around how your weeks actually go. And I’d rather ask than assume.
So I’m inviting you to help shape what comes next, in whatever way fits the capacity you have right now:
|
Have 7 minutes? |
Share your perspective.
|
|
Prefer to talk it through? |
Book 15 minutes with Ja'Bette.
|
|
Only have a moment? |
Hit reply to this newsletter email and tell us: what would make the Hub worth your time? |
I read every response. By January 2027, I’ll share what we heard and what we’re changing.
If you haven’t quite found your way into the Hub yet, we especially want to hear from you. Your perspective is the one we're missing.
With gratitude,
Ja’Bette
This Month in the Rise Room
Your health deserves an hour, too.
You track deadlines, budgets, and everyone else’s needs with precision. Your own health tends to get whatever is left over.
This month, your in-house certified diabetes educator, Kim Crilly, opens two spaces inside the Rise Room, timed with American Diabetes Month. Both are free with your Hub membership. Not a member yet? Join the Rise Room at no cost and come as you are.

Could You Be at Risk for Type 2 Diabetes?

Thursday, November 12
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM EDT
You may feel fine. But do you know your risk? Many adults are living with prediabetes or diabetes without knowing it. In this interactive hour, you’ll complete a brief, evidence-based risk questionnaire, learn what your results may mean and when to talk with your provider about screening, understand the differences between prediabetes, type 1, and type 2 diabetes, and leave with practical next steps. No medical background required. Just curiosity and a willingness to invest an hour in yourself.

How to Thrive with Diabetes: Support & Community

Managing diabetes is personal. You don’t have to navigate it alone. Whether you’ve just learned you have prediabetes, have been managing diabetes for years, or support someone who is, this monthly gathering is a place to connect, ask questions, and explore everyday life with diabetes: food, movement, stress, talking with your care team, and the emotional weight of a chronic condition. Share, ask, or simply listen. All of it counts.
Tuesday, November 17, 6:30 to 7:30 PM ET
Tuesday, December 15, 6:30 to 7:30 PM ET
You don’t have to have all the answers. You just need a place where you can ask the questions.
These sessions offer general health education and peer support. The risk questionnaire does not diagnose diabetes, and neither session replaces medical testing, individualized care, clinical diabetes education, or treatment.

In Case You Missed It
Name It. Build It. Show It.
The Replay is available inside the Rise Room

What do people come to you for? What problems do you keep solving? On October 15, Dr. Christine Crefton led a hands-on Skills Visibility MeetUp for mission-driven leaders built around those two questions.
Participants took one real experience from their work and, using the Name It, Build It, Show It framework, named the skills behind it, translated the story into language someone outside their world could understand, and started a simple evidence bank. Everyone left with a draft skills statement, one next step, and the complimentary Skills Visibility Starter Kit.

GOING DEEPER
Which room is yours?
The Rise Room is where many of us begin. At some point, a quieter question shows up: is there more for me here? If you’ve been sitting with that, here’s a simple way to tell which room fits who you’re becoming.
|
IMPACT COLLECTIVE For leaders ready to sharpen the work. Join the Impact Collective This may be your room if: • You’re carrying a big role and want tools you can use on Monday • You learn best alongside peers who are building, too • You want skill, structure, and steady momentum Inside: Live skill sessions, Impact Collective toolkits, peer learning |
|
LEGACY LAB For leaders ready to shape what lasts. Join the Legacy Lab This may be your room if: • You’ve proven you can do the work, and now you’re asking what it’s all for • You’re leading an organization, a venture, or your next chapter • You want a smaller room of people thinking at your altitude Inside: Mastermind Roundtables including The Founder’s Arc replay, Legacy Lab toolkits |
Still deciding? Ask yourself one question: Do I need sharper tools, or a bigger room to collaborate with a thought partner? Tools point to the Impact Collective. A bigger room points to the Legacy Lab.
And if you’re unsure, reply and tell us where you are. We’ll help you find your fit. No pitch attached.
With gratitude
From all of us at Wishful Doing: thank you. For your attention, your honesty, and the care you bring to the people and places you lead, we are greateful. May this season give you a little more room to breathe.
We’ll see you inside.
Ja’Bette and the Wishful Doing Team
